All you need to know about Panchakarma Treatment

Panchakarma is an important treatment method of Ayurveda.  This is the process that reaches the root cause of the problem and corrects the essential balance of mind, the body as well as emotions. Ayurveda says the Panchakarma technique removes toxic elements from the body. The major therapies include Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya, and Raktamokshana. Let’s know more about them.

Vamana Emesis therapy

It is traditionally used to remove impurities in the stomach and excess Kapha doshas,   such as asthma, bronchitis, nasal congestion. The stomach is an important site for Kapha in the physiology and cleanliness of this area, as it reduces ama (toxins).

Virechana purgation therapy

Which means purgation. The use of laxatives to remove impurities from the small intestine, an important site for Pitta, and therefore an effective treatment to remove ama associated with Pitta accumulation. Laxatives are not recommended to be taken regularly as they can create laziness in elimination.

Basti Enema Therapy

This will help to cleanse and thorough cleansing, establish the correct function of the large intestine is ideal for the excess ama associated with Vata. Basti is different from enemas and purging in that it does not deplete the digestive juice system and can be used to nourish and purify the system.

Nasya Nasal Administration

Application of herbal substances through the nostrils. This helps to remove impurities from the head. To start with a vigorous head/neck massage, and then gently put herbal oil into each nostril. This helps with chronic sinus congestion and rhinitis. Conditions like anxiety, insomnia and headaches can also be alleviated with the proper application of a Nasya.

Rakta Mokshana

Traditional Ayurvedic method for blood purification and cleansing. Historically, this has involved in removing small amounts of blood. Now the principles of this purification procedure are used in natural herbal formulas. According to Ayurveda, blood can be left on all parts of the body according to our needs. However, Rakta is rarely used now in the West.

Rasayana is the last step of the Panchakarma which means nourishing. After toxins are released, this is the time to start replenishing the body with natural foods and herbs, revitalizing massage treatments, and healing practices like meditation and yoga.
